Near-stoichiometric lithium niobate crystals (N-SLN)
Because the niobium-to-lithium ratio in stoichiometric lithium niobate (CLN) crystals is 48.6/51.4, which deviates from the stoichiometric ratio, the crystal contains intrinsic defects such as Li vacancies and Nb occupying Li sites, making it an imperfect crystal. We use a lithium-rich flux-coated Czochralski method to grow near-stoichiometric lithium niobate. To further improve the laser damage threshold of SLN, we typically dope it with 0.5-1.5 mol% MgO.
Advantages of SLN:- Lower polarization reversal voltage (1/5 of CLN)
- Higher thermal conductivity (20-50% higher than CLN & MgCLN)
